Early Voting Ends Today in Texas: 6.24 Million Ballots Are Already In, and Harris County Stands at 835,518 (SPACE CITY DAILY)

HOUSTON - Friday is the final day of early voting in Texas, and voters are closing the window on a number no midterm here has carried into its last day: 6,240,925 Texans had voted early through Thursday, October 29 - 33 percent of the state's registered voters - according to the StatPlate tracker tallying the Secretary of State's county files, read in full by this desk Friday morning. Harris County, the state's largest, stands at 835,518 early ballots, 30 percent of its 2,746,177 registered voters.

The rest of the big-county table shows how broad the turnout runs. Dallas County has recorded 502,969 early ballots, Tarrant County 477,629, Bexar County 432,886 and Travis County 368,507. In the Houston area, Fort Bend County stands at 221,910, Brazoria County at 96,164 and Galveston County at 90,508. The statewide daily rhythm peaked on the first Monday, at about 910,000 in-person votes, and has run above half a million on most days since - the pattern of an electorate that decided early and kept coming.

Early voting hours on the final day vary by county - Lubbock County, for example, votes 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday - and Harris County voters can cast a ballot at any county vote center, as they have throughout the early window. After the polls close tonight, the campaign's remaining ballots are Election Day ballots: Tuesday, November 3, when Harris County polls run 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The totals above are unofficial county-reported figures and will be revised as counties update their files.
