LUBBOCK - Gov. Greg Abbott brings the closing argument of his re-election campaign to Lubbock at midday Friday, the final day of early voting in Texas, with a get-out-the-vote event scheduled for 12:15 p.m. at The Funky Door Bistro & Wine Room on Milwaukee Avenue, according to the Lubbock Lights Ledger's Friday briefing, citing KCBD. Lubbock County's polls are open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on the last early day, and voters there can cast a ballot at any United Supermarkets, Market Street or Amigos location.

The county Abbott is working has already voted in midterm numbers. Lubbock County recorded 67,475 early ballots through Thursday - 33 percent of its 204,340 registered voters - in the StatPlate tally of the Secretary of State's county files, matching the statewide rate of 33 percent on 6,240,925 ballots. The Lubbock ballot he is asking those voters to complete pairs his own race against Democrat Gina Hinojosa with the U.S. Senate contest between Republican Ken Paxton and Democrat James Talarico and the 19th Congressional District race between Republican Tom Sell and Democrat Kyle Rable for the seat held by Rep. Jodey Arrington.

The governor's race Abbott is closing is the tighter of Texas's two top contests on the public numbers: the polling average tracked by Midterm Results Live, updated Friday, has Abbott ahead of Hinojosa by 3.3 points. A midday stop in a Republican West Texas stronghold on the last early day is base mechanics, not persuasion - the campaign's remaining Lubbock votes are the ones still uncast when the polls close at 8 p.m. After tonight, the next chance is Election Day itself, Tuesday, November 3.
