Houston Weather at 1 A.M. on Election Day: 73.9 Degrees and Partly Cloudy, With Heavy Rain Ahead for the Polls (SPACE CITY DAILY)

HOUSTON - Houston went into Election Day at 73.9 degrees under a partly cloudy sky, feeling like 79.4 - a calmer night than the forecast waiting on the other side of sunrise.

The station's live weather feed holds Tuesday at code 65, heavy rain, with a high of 82.1 degrees, a low of 62.0 and the precipitation chance nudged up from 50 to 52 percent since the 11 p.m. file. The current condition eased in the other direction - from overcast (code 3) at 11 p.m. to partly cloudy (code 2) at 1 a.m. - but the day itself has not budged: voters heading to vote centers that open at 7 a.m. should expect rain at some point in the voting window.

The pattern breaks quickly behind the election. Wednesday stays overcast (code 3) and cools to a high of 77.8 and a low of 57.9 with no rain expected - the coolest night of the week. Thursday keeps a thunderstorm code (95) but its high dropped sharply in this read, from 82.4 to 73.4, with a low of 66.9 and a 36 percent rain chance, and Friday flipped from drizzle to thunderstorms (95) as well, at 77.7 degrees and the same 36 percent chance.

The weekend steadies: Saturday and Sunday are both overcast (code 3), at 78.6 and 77.5 degrees, each with a 22 percent rain chance, and Monday turns partly cloudy at 78.6 with the chance down to 4 percent. For Election Day, the practical read is unchanged from last night's file: build the rain into the trip to the polls.
