The sky closed in over Houston late Monday - and Tuesday's code swung with it. Election Day is back to heavy rain (65) at 82.1 degrees with the rain chance up to 50 percent, so voters heading to the polls should plan for a wet day before Wednesday clears and cools to 78.3.

Houston Weather at 11 P.M. Monday: 75.3 Degrees and Overcast, and Election Day's Heavy Rain Is Back in the Forecast (SPACE CITY DAILY)

HOUSTON - Houston ended Monday night at 75.3 degrees under an overcast sky, feeling like 81.2 - and the Election Day forecast moved the wrong way for anyone hoping to vote dry.

The station's live weather feed now carries Tuesday at code 65, heavy rain, with a high of 82.1 degrees, a low of 62.0 and the precipitation chance up to 50 percent. That is a sharp late swing from the 9 p.m. file, which had Election Day eased to dense drizzle (55) at a 39 percent chance; the heavy-rain code is back, and it is the wettest read of the day for Tuesday.

The current sky tells the same story: the feed's present condition flipped from mainly clear (code 1) at 9 p.m. to overcast (code 3) at 11 p.m., at the same 75.3 degrees. Monday itself closes overcast at a high of 82.4 and a low of 70.4, with a 4 percent precipitation chance.

Behind the rain, the pattern turns. Wednesday stays overcast (code 3) and cools sharply to a high of 78.3 and a low of 57.9 with no rain expected. Thursday carries a thunderstorm code (95) at 82.4 degrees with the chance nudged up to 36 percent, and Friday turns to drizzle (53) at 73.7, also at 36 percent. The weekend eased: Saturday is overcast at 76.5 and Sunday mainly clear at 75.6, both with the rain chance trimmed to 22 percent.

For Election Day itself, the practical read is simple: polls are open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and the wettest hours can arrive at any point in that window - build the rain into the trip.
