Houston Names October 29 'Nathaniel Tank Dell Day' - Five Days After His First Game in 673 Days, and on His 27th Birthday
Mayor John Whitmire's proclamation honors a receiver who dislocated his knee and tore multiple ligaments in December 2024, rehabbed through an entire lost season, and marked his return Sunday with a 43-yard catch.

HOUSTON - October 29 now belongs to Tank Dell in the city he plays for. Mayor John Whitmire has proclaimed the date 'Nathaniel Tank Dell Day' in Houston, honoring the Texans receiver whose return to the field on Sunday closed one of the longest injury roads in the league - and the proclamation lands on Dell's 27th birthday.
The road, in numbers: Dell dislocated his knee, tore multiple ligaments and suffered meniscus damage in December 2024. He spent all of last season rehabbing. Sunday's game against the New York Giants was his first in 673 days. He played 14 snaps, and on one of them he hauled in a pass for 43 yards - the kind of play that made him a fan favorite before the injury. 'I'm blessed,' Dell told reporters this week. 'I felt blessed but not really a relief. I'm grateful for everything, but I'm a playmaker, man. I'm so used to making those plays. There's so many more to come.'
Dell is a Daytona Beach native and Mainland High School alum who stayed in Houston for college, becoming a third-round pick of the Texans out of the University of Houston in 2023. Through his first two professional seasons he appeared in 25 games and posted 98 receptions for 1,376 yards and 10 touchdowns - production the Texans' receiver room has had to replace, most recently with Jaylin Noel lost for the season. The Texans are off this weekend before facing the Los Angeles Chargers on November 8, which gives Dell's role two weeks to grow. The city, meanwhile, has given his comeback a date on the calendar.
