PM Drive Update: Eastex Southbound Accident at Aldine Mail Route Is Affecting All Mainlanes, With Major Crashes on McKinney and Tidwell
Houston TranStar's 4:08 p.m. board has a new lead problem: a two-vehicle accident on IH-69 Eastex southbound at Aldine Mail Route, verified at 3:59 p.m., with all mainlanes and both shoulders affected - plus 15 street incidents and four stalls as the evening commute builds.
The evening commute's biggest problem is on the Eastex Freeway. Houston TranStar's live file, updated at 4:08 p.m. Wednesday, listed an accident on IH-69 Eastex southbound at Aldine Mail Route involving two vehicles, verified at 3:59 p.m., with all mainlanes and both the left and right shoulders affected - the only freeway incident on the board carrying an all-mainlanes impact. Two earlier freeway accidents have cleared: IH-610 North Loop westbound at IH-45 North, a three-vehicle accident on the right shoulder, cleared at 3:50 p.m., and the West Sam Houston Tollway northbound at US-290 Northwest, two vehicles, cleared at 3:48 p.m.
The street board is busy underneath it: 15 street incidents, led by two major accidents - McKinney Street at South Lockwood Drive, reported at 3:54 p.m., and Tidwell Road, reported at 3:40 p.m. Minor accidents fill the rest of the list, including San Jacinto at Jefferson (4:02 p.m.), Fannin at Alabama (3:58 p.m.), T C Jester Boulevard (3:50 p.m.), West Alabama at Sage (3:50 p.m.), Richmond at Fondren and Harwin at Reims (both 3:47 p.m.), Beechnut (3:43 p.m.) and Bay Area Boulevard (3:17 p.m.). TranStar reported no high water locations.
Four stalls sit on shoulders around the loop: the South Sam Houston Tollway eastbound at South Post Oak (verified 3:13 p.m.), SH-288 southbound before Almeda-Genoa Road (verified 3:59 p.m.), a heavy-truck stall on IH-10 Katy westbound at the IH-610 West Loop / US-290 direct connect (verified 3:37 p.m.), and another heavy truck on IH-10 Katy eastbound at SH-6 (verified 2:58 p.m.).
The standing closures have not changed. US-90 Alternate remains totally closed in both directions from Du Pont Street to Cullen Boulevard until further notice (listed through May 31, 2027), and the IH-10 Katy HOV lanes remain totally closed from Franklin Street to Studemont Street through July 1, 2027, with two outside westbound mainlanes closed from IH-45/Hogan to Studemont and alternating lane closures between Heights Boulevard and IH-45. FM-360 in Needville stays closed continuously, now listed through November 13. Drivers on the Eastex corridor should expect the heaviest delays of the drive until the Aldine Mail Route scene clears.
