Houston Traffic on Monday Evening: I-45 Gulf Loses Three Lanes at Maxwell Tonight, and I-69 Southwest Starts a Month of Nightly Ramp Closures
The night's work is concentrated on two corridors. The I-45 Gulf northbound drops to alternate lanes from Maxwell Lane to Wayside tonight and tomorrow, 9 to 5. And I-69 Southwest begins its long November: ramps at Fondren, Gessner, Bellaire and Beechnut close nightly into mid- and late November, with the Beltway 8-to-Newcastle lane work running to Nov. 29.

HOUSTON - Monday evening's drive inherits the day's standing work, but Houston TranStar's construction board is really about tonight. On the Gulf Freeway, three alternate lanes of I-45 northbound from Maxwell Lane to Wayside Drive / US-90 Alternate close nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., tonight and Tuesday night - a rolling squeeze on the inbound side while most of the city sleeps, and a lane pattern to expect again tomorrow night.
The bigger calendar belongs to I-69 Southwest. The northbound entrance and exit ramps at Fondren Road close nightly from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. through Sunday, Nov. 15, and the ramps at Gessner Road run the same nightly window to Nov. 15. Further out, the Bellaire Boulevard and Beechnut Street ramps close nightly to Sunday, Nov. 22. Drivers who use those four interchanges after 8 p.m. should plan on the next ramp up or down the freeway for most of November.
The mainlanes narrow with them: one alternate lane of I-69 northbound from Beltway 8-West to Newcastle Drive, and one inside lane southbound from Newcastle to Beltway 8-West, close nightly from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. through Sunday, Nov. 29 - the longest single run on tonight's board.
And on the South Loop, one U-turn lane of the I-610 eastbound frontage road from Stella Link Road to US-90 Alternate / South Main closes nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., tonight through Friday, Nov. 6. All of it is TranStar's posted construction schedule, subject to change with weather or emergency work - and Tuesday's forecast rain is exactly the kind of weather that moves it.
