Houston Weather at 8 P.M.: 70 Degrees and Raining, Halloween Eases Back to Light Rain, Election Day Firms to Code 96 (SPACE CITY DAILY)

HOUSTON - Houston stood at 70.2 degrees, feeling like 75.2, under light-rain code 61 on the station's live weather feed read at about 8:10 p.m. Friday, with a 64 percent rain chance on the hour. Friday closes at 77 over 65.7 with drizzle code 53 and that same 64 percent chance - a wet end to the early-voting day and a wet start to the Halloween weekend, with the East Sam Houston Tollway's scheduled 10 p.m. closure arriving on wet pavement.

Halloween Saturday changed grade for the third time today. The 8 p.m. feed carries light-rain code 61 at 79.4 degrees over 69.9 with a 52 percent rain chance - down from the thunderstorm code 81 the feed posted at 6 p.m., which had itself replaced the light-shower code 63 of the 4 p.m. read. The planning answer has steadied even as the code moved: rain is more likely than not on Saturday evening, but the feed no longer calls it a thunderstorm day. Trick-or-treat routes should still expect wet streets and keep a dry place in reach if a cell builds.

The rest of the board firmed up. Sunday and Monday stay the dry bridge - overcast code 3 at 85.3 and 85.8 degrees, rain chances 4 and 1 percent. Election Day Tuesday firmed to code 96 at 84.1 over 66.1 with a 68 percent rain chance - on the Open-Meteo scale, code 96 is a thunderstorm with slight hail risk, a step up from the plain thunderstorm code 95 the day carried at 6 p.m., and still the highest rain figure of the week. Behind it, Wednesday clears to code 0 and cools sharply to 75.7 over 61.8, the coolest night on the board, before Thursday returns to overcast at 80.2. The Weather Desk updates the file as the feed moves.
