Trump Approval Rating Hits Record Lows as He Rallies in Corinth for Hyde-Smith

Trump Approval Rating Hits Record Lows as He Rallies in Corinth for Hyde-Smith (SPACE CITY DAILY)

President Donald Trump holds a rally tonight in Corinth, Mississippi, for Republican Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith, eight days before the Nov. 3 midterms, AURN News reported. Mississippi is a state Trump won by about 23 percentage points in 2024, and the visit highlights an unexpectedly competitive Senate race in reliably Republican territory.

The rally comes as Trump's approval rating has fallen to record lows in several surveys. An Oct. 16-19 Reuters/Ipsos poll put his approval at 31 percent, his lowest in that poll across either presidential term, and a Pew Research Center survey conducted Sept. 28 to Oct. 4 put it at 30 percent, AURN News reported. The Clarion Ledger reported the same direction in other recent polling: 34 percent in a New York Times/Siena University poll, 32 percent in CNN/SSRS results, and 36 percent in Fox News polling from Oct. 9-12. In Mississippi itself, Civiqs data as of Oct. 20 showed 42 percent supporting the president and 52 percent disapproving — a record low for the state across both his terms — while support among Republicans nationally stood at 76 percent, down from 92 percent in March 2025, the Clarion Ledger reported.

Hyde-Smith faces Democrat Scott Colom, a district attorney in northern Mississippi who would be the state's first Black U.S. senator since Reconstruction; Mississippi has not elected a Democrat to the U.S. Senate since 1982, AURN News reported. The tightened race has drawn Democratic funding, a campaign visit from former Vice President Kamala Harris and an ad featuring former President Barack Obama. Republicans say tonight's trip is about turnout, arguing Trump brings out voters who skip midterms, while Colom says it shows Hyde-Smith is scared, AURN News reported.

The rally is at Crossroads Arena in Corinth, with doors opening at 2:30 p.m., the program beginning at 4:30 p.m. and remarks set for 6 p.m., the Clarion Ledger reported. Attendance requires advance registration, with a maximum of four tickets per sign-up.
