Two People Caught in Crossfire on Richmond Avenue: One Stable, One Flown to a Hospital in Critical Condition, HPD Says
Houston police say two people who were not the intended targets were shot late Sunday on Richmond Avenue between Gessner and Fondren, caught between two groups firing at each other. One is stable; the other was flown by Life Flight in critical condition. Police have released no suspect descriptions, and witnesses told KPRC 2 a block party was under way nearby.

HOUSTON - Two people were hospitalized late Sunday after being caught in the middle of a shooting on Richmond Avenue in southwest Houston, according to the Houston Police Department. Lt. Horelica said officers with the Midwest Patrol Division received multiple calls around 10:40 p.m. about a shooting on Richmond, between South Gessner Road and Fondren Road.
While officers were at the scene investigating, two separate vehicles arrived at an area hospital carrying two different victims who had been shot, police said. A preliminary investigation alleges both victims were caught in the crossfire of two different groups shooting at each other - bystanders, on the police account, not targets. One victim was last reported in stable condition; the second was taken to another hospital by Life Flight in critical condition.
Two witnesses who spoke with KPRC 2 said a block party was taking place in the area when the gunfire erupted. Police have not released descriptions of the suspects or of the two groups believed to have been involved, and no names have been released.
Lt. Horelica asked anyone with information about the shooting to contact the Houston Police Department. The investigation remains ongoing.
