HPD Investigates a Fatal Shooting at 3774 South Gessner: an 18-Year-Old Died After a Fight Outside a Southwest Houston Club (SPACE CITY DAILY)

HOUSTON - The Houston Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting at 3774 South Gessner Road - the department's Nov. 2 release index lists the case as a fatal-shooting investigation - after a fight in a parking lot outside a southwest Houston club early Saturday ended with a young man dead, according to police reporting carried by KPRC 2.

Officers were called around 6:15 a.m. to the area of Westpark Drive and Gessner Road, as people were leaving Club Majic, where Puerto Rican artist Bryant Myers was reportedly performing overnight. The victim ran after being shot, then collapsed and died at the scene, police said. Friends told KPRC 2 he was 18; police have not officially identified him, and this station does not name him until they do.

What is not settled is who fired. Friends of the victim raised questions about whether a security guard fired the shots - a claim that has not been verified. Detective Kyle Stringer told KPRC 2 that security guards are among those being interviewed, and police said seven or eight witnesses were being questioned. Surveillance video from a nearby meat market shows a group gathered in the parking lot in the moments around the shooting.

Police said they believe the shooting was an isolated incident. No suspect has been named, and investigators said they do not yet know the club's licensing status. The investigation is continuing.
