Halloween Just Got Wetter: Houston's Saturday Jumps From Drizzle to a Thunderstorm Code 95, While Election Day Holds at 96

The feed held Halloween at drizzle all day. The evening read changed the kind of rain, not the chance of it - 43 percent, now with thunder in it - and families planning Saturday night should plan around storms, not sprinkles.

Halloween Just Got Wetter: Houston's Saturday Jumps From Drizzle to a Thunderstorm Code 95, While Election Day Holds at 96 (SPACE CITY DAILY)

HOUSTON - Halloween's forecast changed its character on Thursday evening. The station's live Open-Meteo feed now reads Saturday at thunderstorm code 95 - up from the drizzle code 55 it held through the afternoon and evening files - with the rain chance unchanged at 43 percent, a high of 84.4 and a low of 67.1. A code change at a steady probability is the feed saying the rain that falls is more likely to arrive as thunderstorms than as drizzle, which is a different Saturday night for trick-or-treaters: costumes and candy still work between cells, but nobody should plan an evening that assumes it stays merely damp.

The rest of the board moved at the edges. Thursday is ending mild and overcast: 69.0 degrees at the evening check, feeling like 68.5, code 3, after a high of 78.9, with the low of 65.4 still ahead and a 1 percent rain chance. Friday, the last day of early voting, stays overcast (code 3) at 75.9 - its low eased back down to 63.8 and its rain chance fell to 6 percent, the driest read Friday has had all day. Sunday is overcast at 84.9 and 70.4 with a 10 percent chance, and Monday warmed on this read to a high of 86.3 with light drizzle (code 51) at 5 percent.

Tuesday, Election Day, held thunderstorm code 96 at a 62 percent rain chance for a third consecutive read - now the steadiest signal on the board - with a high of 80.3 and a low that warmed to 69.2. Wednesday cools to 75.5 under a mostly clear code 1. The practical week, in one line: Friday is fine, Saturday night needs a storm plan and a flexible route, and Tuesday's voters should expect the wettest day of the seven.
