Driver Killed in High-Speed Crash on Sam Houston Parkway at South Post Oak
A driver believed to be 18 years old was killed early Saturday when his vehicle hit a pole at high speed at South Sam Houston Parkway and South Post Oak Road, splitting the vehicle in two, Houston police said.

A man was killed early Saturday morning in a single-vehicle crash in southwest Houston, Houston police said, in a wreck an off-duty officer witnessed as it happened. Police responded around 3 a.m. to the intersection of South Sam Houston Parkway and South Post Oak Road, after the off-duty officer saw a vehicle go through the intersection at a high rate of speed before hitting a pole, FOX 26 Houston reported.
The impact split the vehicle in two and ejected the driver, who is believed to be an 18-year-old man, police said. Houston Fire Department crews attempted to save him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators have not determined whether alcohol was a factor in the crash, police said. The victim's identity has not been released. No other vehicle was reported involved, and no other injuries were reported in the account police gave Saturday.
The crash is the second fatal incident Houston police worked before dawn on Halloween - officers also investigated the deadly Saturday-morning shooting on Westpark Drive, a separate case this station covered earlier today. Details beyond what police have released are still coming from investigators.
