Ryans Says No Coaching Changes for the 2-5 Texans in the Bye Week: 'Where We Are, It's Not Good Enough'
DeMeco Ryans confirmed Monday that his whole staff stays - Caley, Popovich, Burke and Ross - after the overtime loss to the Giants. GM Nick Caserio's own diagnosis: four losses on the last possession, a 1-4 record in one-score games, and one of the league's worst tackling teams.

The Houston Texans need some change to reignite their season after the bye week. It will not be the coaching staff. Head coach DeMeco Ryans confirmed on Monday, after the overtime loss to the New York Giants, that the coaching staff will remain unchanged entering the bye week - offensive coordinator Nick Caley, offensive line coach Cole Popovich, defensive coordinator Matt Burke and special teams coordinator Frank Ross all stay. "We are where we are right now," Ryans said. "Where we are, it's not good enough."
The Texans sit at 2-5 heading into Week 8, and the staff has already been shaken once: after a 0-4 start, Ryans took defensive play-calling back from Burke, a job he had given up after an 0-3 start last season. Three games on, the defense has only marginally improved despite featuring nine starters from last season's No. 1-ranked unit. Houston now ranks in the middle of the pack in nearly every category, is allowing 24.3 points per game, and remains one of the worst tackling teams in the NFL.
That last judgment is not a statistic - it is general manager Nick Caserio's own words. "We lost four games on the last possession," Caserio said Monday. "What are some of the things we can do on the margin to potentially improve to see if we can finish those games? We're 1-4 in one-score games, whatever it was. We were able to pull out the Jacksonville game because we executed critical situations. It's where we are. There's no reason to mope around and wallow in our sorrows." The Texans return from the bye with a road trip to take on the winless Los Angeles Chargers - the kind of game a 2-5 team with four last-possession losses cannot afford to make a fifth.
