Election Day in Harris County: Shell Energy Stadium Opens as a Vote Center Tuesday, With 600-Plus Centers Voting 7 to 7 (SPACE CITY DAILY)

HOUSTON - Harris County's Election Day map gained a landmark on Monday. Shell Energy Stadium, home of the Houston Dynamo and the Houston Dash, will serve as a vote center for the county's Nov. 3 general and special elections, the club announced Monday - voting inside the Jameson Club from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., with free voter parking in Blue Lot 1 on the stadium's west side and curbside voting available in the same lot. The stadium stands at 2200 Texas Avenue in East Downtown, a short walk from the EaDo/Stadium stops on the METRORail Green and Purple lines.

The stadium is one of more than 600 vote centers expected across Harris County on Tuesday, and the county's rule is the convenient one: a registered Harris County voter may cast a ballot at any vote center in the county, regardless of home precinct. Polls run 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. everywhere, and a voter who is in line by 7 p.m. may stay in line and vote. Ballots are available in English, Spanish, Vietnamese and Chinese.

Before leaving home, the county asks voters to confirm their registration status and review a sample ballot at HarrisVotes.com, where the full Election Day vote-center list runs from neighborhood schools to college campuses and county annexes; the elections phone line is 713-755-6965. Identification requirements and their exceptions are listed on the same site.

Tuesday's forecast, in this station's 3 p.m. weather read, now carries a heavy-rain code for Election Day - all the more reason to vote early in the day, pick the center closest to wherever you already are, and give the trip a few extra minutes.

Washington Calls for an Independent Citizens' Justice Review: 'Who Do the People Turn to for Justice?'

Presidential candidate John Washington III is asking what recourse ordinary Americans have when the officials accused of wrongdoing are the same ones who decide whether a case moves forward. In a statement headed 'Question the System,' he proposed an independent pathway - a citizens' justice review process that could receive credible evidence, investigate where warranted and act without depending on the approval of the institutions being challenged.

Texas Reaches Settlement Requiring Harris County Clerk to Remove Election Ads That Used Race-Based Targeting

On the eve of Election Day, the state of Texas has secured an agreement requiring the Harris County Clerk's Office to remove its election advertisements that used race-based targeting settings - and not to reactivate them during the election period, the Attorney General's office announced. Attorney General Ken Paxton recused himself from the case because he is a candidate on the November ballot; Rep. Christian Menefee had called the suit a last-ditch effort to keep Houstonians from the polls.
