Paxton Brings the Come and Take It Tour to Houston Today: Doors at 11:30 on Shepherd Drive, Then a 5 P.M. Stop in Pearland (SPACE CITY DAILY)

HOUSTON - Ken Paxton's Come and Take It bus tour reaches Houston today, Friday, October 30, with two stops in the Houston area on the final day of early voting. The campaign's event listing puts the Houston stop at Federal American Grill, 510 Shepherd Drive, with doors opening at 11:30 a.m. The event is free and in person, organized by Ken Paxton for U.S. Senate.

The day does not end inside the Loop. A second listing brings the tour to Brazoria County at 5 p.m. today - Rob Ray's Taproom, 2503 Covey Lane in Pearland - giving the Republican nominee for U.S. Senate a morning-to-evening run through the Houston region on the day Harris County's early vote closes at 7 p.m.

The Houston double sits near the end of an 18-day closing tour that Paxton's campaign mapped across more than 30 Texas stops. The tour opened in Rockwall two days before early voting began and is scheduled to close at the Alamo on November 2, the eve of Election Day, after stops that have included Dallas, Fort Worth, Austin, El Paso, Amarillo, Lubbock and the Rio Grande Valley.

Paxton's Houston timing is the measurable part of the story. Harris County cast more than 862,000 early ballots through Thursday afternoon, the county's fastest midterm early vote on record, and the Senate race he is running - against Democrat James Talarico, with Libertarian Ted Brown also on the ballot - has polled inside the margin of error all month. The tour's Houston day is aimed at the voters who have not yet cast one of those ballots, in the hours before the early period ends.
