How to Vote in the US Midterms Is America's Top Search on Monday - Here Are Harris County's Own Answers
The most-searched question in the United States on Monday morning is the simplest one in democracy: how to vote in the US midterms. In Harris County, the clerk's official answers come down to a short list - polls Tuesday from 7 to 7, a mail ballot that must be postmarked by 7 p.m. Tuesday, and one address for handing it in yourself.

HOUSTON - On the last full day before the midterm elections, the top trending Google search in the United States is "how to vote in the us midterms," according to the CyberKendra snapshot of Google's daily trending searches read by this desk on Monday. For Harris County voters, the authoritative answers sit on the county clerk's HarrisVotes site - and most of them fit on an index card.
Election Day is Tuesday, November 3, 2026. Harris County's model lets a registered county voter cast a ballot at any vote center in the county, and the clerk's Election Day guide puts more than 600 centers in service from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Voters in line at closing time still vote. What Monday's searchers most often need, though, is the mail-ballot endgame, because the deadlines are now measured in hours.
The clerk's Voting FAQ states the return rules exactly. A completed mail ballot must come back in the official carrier envelope provided. Sent through the Postal Service, it must be postmarked by 7 p.m. on Election Day and received by 5 p.m. on the first mail delivery day after Election Day, addressed to the Harris County Clerk's Office Elections Department, P.O. Box 1148, Houston, TX 77251-1148. Hand delivery exists only on Election Day itself, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., at 1019 Congress Street in downtown Houston - and only the voter may deliver their own ballot, with an acceptable form of photo identification in hand.
Two last safety valves are worth the search traffic on their own. A voter whose eligibility is questioned at a vote center can cast a provisional ballot, and the clerk's FAQ notes it must be cured within the six days following the election for it to count. And a voter who requested a mail ballot but would rather vote in person should bring the mail ballot materials to the vote center, as the station's Election Day guide set out on Sunday. Monday is the day to check the sample ballot and pick a center; Tuesday is the day the answers become deadlines.
