Houston Weather at 3 P.M.: 82 Degrees and Clear - Tuesday's Rain Chance Holds at 86 Percent (SPACE CITY DAILY)

HOUSTON - Houston stood at 82 degrees under clear skies at 3 p.m. on Sunday, feeling like 86.2, according to the station's live weather feed - a degree above the 1 p.m. reading and essentially at the day's high of 82.2, with the low at 70.1 and the day's rain chance at 7 percent under its fog code. It is the weekend's best afternoon, and the week's calmest.

Monday holds the pattern one more day: overcast skies (code 3), a high of 82 and a low of 67.8, with the rain chance down to 4 percent - the driest line in the seven-day feed. Behind it the week turns: Wednesday is overcast and cooler at 80.9 and 66.1 with an 18 percent rain chance, and Thursday through Saturday run in the low-to-mid 80s with rain chances of 11 to 15 percent.

Tuesday - Election Day - is where the two pictures read this cycle need care. The station feed holds Tuesday at 85.2 degrees with an 86 percent chance of rain, though its weather code eased from a thunderstorm code at midday to a drizzle code (51) by mid-afternoon. FOX 26's Houston forecasters, in their own report read this cycle, warn of the heavier version: a cold front that could produce widespread heavy rain, strong winds and hail, Southeast Texas under a 1-of-4 flooding risk, and the heaviest rain beginning late Tuesday morning and running through the evening.

Both pictures agree on the practical point, and FOX 26 states it plainly: anyone voting on Election Day should head to the polls early, ahead of the late-morning rain. Behind the front, the same forecast brings the week's reward - cooler air from Wednesday into the start of the weekend, highs in the 70s and mornings in the 50s. Sunday's 82-degree calm is the before picture; Tuesday decides how rough the during gets.
