Dynamo at Seattle on Wednesday: Playoff-Bound Houston Chases a Top-Four Seed at Lumen Field
Houston's playoff place is already secured for the third time in four seasons. What is left to win in Wednesday's 9:30 p.m. CT kickoff at Seattle is position: the Dynamo sit fifth in the West on 48 points, just outside the home-field line, with goalkeeper Jonathan Bond one shutout from a club record.

The Houston Dynamo open a two-match road trip Wednesday night at Lumen Field against the Seattle Sounders (9:30 p.m. CT, Apple TV), playing for seeding rather than survival. Houston has already earned its place in the Audi 2026 MLS Cup Playoffs for the third time in four seasons, and with three regular-season matches remaining it sits fifth in the Western Conference on 48 points - even with San Jose, ahead on tiebreakers, and just outside the top four and the home-field advantage that comes with it. The Dynamo have stayed above the playoff line since May and have avoided defeat in 14 of 17 matches since returning from the World Cup break.
Saturday's scoreless home draw with Minnesota was Houston's 12th clean sheet of the season and goalkeeper Jonathan Bond's 11th - five saves, every Minnesota shot on target stopped, and MLS Team of the Matchday honors. One more shutout ties Tally Hall's club record of 12 in a single season. The man who would normally direct the chase from the touchline will not be there: head coach Ben Olsen serves a suspension Wednesday after receiving a red card during Saturday's match, the club said.
The April meeting between these teams is the warning and the encouragement in one result: Houston out-chanced Seattle heavily - 1.4 expected goals to 0.4, 13 shots to five, nine corners to three - and still lost 1-0, on Paul Rothrock's 83rd-minute finish from a mis-cleared cross. Seattle (11-10-10, 43 points, seventh) has its own business Wednesday: a win, paired with a Portland loss or draw against St. Louis, clinches the Sounders' playoff spot. Houston's attack runs through Guilherme, who has contributed to 26 of the Dynamo's 41 league goals - 63.4 percent - and is just the second player in club history with 10 goals and 10 assists in a season. After Seattle, the trip continues Sunday at Portland.
