Kitchen Grease Fire at Bush Intercontinental's Terminal C Sends a Large Plume of Smoke Over the Airport; United Says Flights Are Not Affected
A grease fire in a Terminal C kitchen sent a large, dark plume of smoke into the sky over George Bush Intercontinental Airport on Tuesday afternoon. United Airlines said the fire is not affecting flights.

A grease fire in a kitchen sent a large plume of smoke into the sky at Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport on Tuesday afternoon, officials said, in an incident that drew firefighters to Terminal C and was visible well beyond the airport grounds. Video sent to FOX 26 Houston by a viewer showed firefighters at the airport as a large, dark cloud of smoke rose from the terminal area.
According to United Airlines, the fire in Terminal C was sparked in a kitchen, and it is not affecting flights. United is the dominant carrier at Bush Intercontinental and Terminal C is one of its principal terminals, which made the airline's no-impact statement the operationally important line of the afternoon: planes kept moving while crews worked the fire inside.
Officials had not reported any injuries in the initial accounts, and no cause beyond the kitchen grease fire itself had been given. FOX 26 described the incident as a developing story and sent a crew to the scene. Space City Daily will update this file if the airport or the Houston Fire Department releases a fuller account of the fire and any damage inside the terminal.
