Teen Accused of Shooting His Father Dead After a Fight at a Northwest Harris County Home, Sheriff's Office Says (SPACE CITY DAILY)

A family fight in northwest Harris County turned deadly early Friday, when a 17-year-old shot and killed his father inside their home, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office as reported by FOX 26 Houston. Harris County Constable Precinct 1 deputies were called around 1:30 a.m. to a shooting call at a home on Westbank Avenue, between Fairbanks North Houston Road and North Houston Rosslyn Road.

When deputies arrived, they found a 37-year-old man dead inside the home with gunshot wounds. Investigators learned the man had gotten into an altercation with his son, and during the fight the teen got a pistol and shot his father, the sheriff's office said. The teen left the home after the shooting, and deputies searched the immediate area without locating him. The mother and two juvenile siblings were also inside the home at the time; no one else was injured.

Sgt. Jason Brown told FOX 26 that it was not uncommon for the father and son to get into disputes, describing an ongoing argument between them. Authorities say they hope to locate the teen to hear his side of what happened, and that no decision has been made on whether criminal charges will be filed. What specifically triggered the fight that ended in gunfire remains unclear, and investigators are still piecing together the events leading up to it. No names have been released.

Voters left their stickers at a mural in the East End. Then the city's controller and a council member aimed at the same target: HPD's working relationship with ICE, which the department's own quarterly report puts at 88 immigration-related contacts from July through September - 17 people transferred, and traffic stops that held Houstonians an average of 46 minutes.
