A Phone Sale Meetup on MacGregor Way Turned Into a Robbery, and the Seller Was Shot, Police Say (SPACE CITY DAILY)

A meetup arranged to sell a cell phone turned violent in South Central Houston on Thursday afternoon, leaving the seller shot, according to Houston police as reported by FOX 26 Houston. The shooting was reported at 4:30 p.m. on North MacGregor Way, close to Tierwester Street.

Police said the shooting happened during what they described as an internet sales meeting: a person trying to sell a phone was instead robbed and shot. The man who was shot was taken to a hospital and is expected to recover, officials told FOX 26.

No one involved has been identified, and police have not released a suspect description; FOX 26 reported it was still working to confirm suspect details. The case is the kind of meetup robbery Harris County Precinct 4 has repeatedly warned about - the precinct suggests people use the Safe Exchange Zones available at police stations and constable offices for in-person sales rather than meeting a stranger at an address neither side controls.

After the Midterms, Houston's HPD-ICE Policy Is Under Pressure: 88 ICE Contacts in One Quarter, and a Call to Reform From City Hall

Voters left their stickers at a mural in the East End. Then the city's controller and a council member aimed at the same target: HPD's working relationship with ICE, which the department's own quarterly report puts at 88 immigration-related contacts from July through September - 17 people transferred, and traffic stops that held Houstonians an average of 46 minutes.
