BAYTOWN - One man is dead after a single-vehicle rollover crash on the I-10 East Freeway at Spur 330 in Baytown early Monday morning, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies received a call about the crash around 12:34 a.m., Deputy Trevino of the sheriff's office said. A witness reported that the driver of a black Cadillac lost control and hit a wall, before the vehicle rolled over and came to a stop in another lane. The driver was ejected from the vehicle and landed on the roadway, and Deputy Trevino said the driver did not appear to be wearing his seatbelt.
Houston Fire Department EMS pronounced the man dead at the scene. A witness told authorities the Cadillac was traveling at 80 mph or more - the witness said they were themselves going 80 mph when the vehicle passed them - according to the reporting on the sheriff's office account. That speed figure is a witness account, not a finding; the sheriff's office has not announced a cause.
The driver's identity was not released. The crash is a sheriff's office case, and any further detail - including the driver's name - will come from officials as they release it.
