Houston Thursday: Overcast and 78, a Hot 88-Degree Halloween - and Thunderstorms Looming for Election Day (SPACE CITY DAILY)

HOUSTON - Thursday in Houston is the quiet day of a noisy week. The station's weather feed had the city at 68.1 degrees and overcast just after midnight, on its way to a gray, mild high of 78.2 with a low of 64 and only a 4 percent chance of rain. Friday repeats it a degree cooler - 77.4 and 62.8, again effectively dry - for the last day of early voting.

Halloween flips the pattern. Saturday's high jumps to 87.8 under a showers code, with a 38 percent precipitation chance and a warm low of 70.4 - trick-or-treat weather that is more August than October, with a real, if minority, chance of a passing shower. Sunday and Monday run hotter still, 88.7 and 88.8 under returning overcast, with rain chances of 5 and 14 percent.

The day to circle is Tuesday - Election Day. The feed carries a thunderstorm code for November 3, a high of 76.4, a low of 67.8 and a 55 percent precipitation probability, the wettest day on the seven-day board. That is a forecast five days out and it will move; what it tells Harris County voters today is that Friday's early-voting close, in the dry, is the surest bet of the week. Wednesday behind the election clears to 76.4 with sunshine returning.
