Houston High School Football's Final Friday: Ridge Point and Hightower Meet as District Unbeatens, and the Playoff Bracket Locks This Weekend (SPACE CITY DAILY)

The Texas high school football regular season ends tonight, and the Houston area's final Friday is loaded with games that decide district titles, playoff spots and seeding. The headline matchup is in Sugar Land, where Ridge Point and Hightower - both unbeaten in district play - meet at Mercer Stadium in KPRC 2's Friday Football Frenzy Game of the Week, the latest chapter of the Fort Bend rivalry that has decided its district in the final week before. KPRC 2 Sports Director Randy McIlvoy's crew will be live at Mercer through the evening, with the Frenzy wrap at 10:15 p.m.

District 17-6A, the area's deepest race, finishes its business across two nights. C.E. King claimed the district title on Thursday with a 27-20 win at Humble Summer Creek - the Panthers are 8-1, ranked No. 3 in HS Football Nation's Class 6A poll, and own a 42-21 win over North Shore. Tonight, Summer Creek plays at Atascocita with both programs 4-2 in the district and seeding on the line, while King hosts Channelview. Elsewhere on the Friday slate: Willis against Conroe and The Woodlands against Oak Ridge in the Montgomery County races, Barbers Hill against Clear Springs, Lamar against Alief Taylor, and Yates against Booker T. Washington in the Houston ISD's oldest rivalry game.

What tonight settles becomes official fast. Districts must certify their playoff qualifiers by Saturday, November 7, and the UIL's official pairings and brackets are released over the weekend, November 7-8. The postseason opens with bi-district games on November 12-14 and runs six weeks to the state championship games, December 16-19 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington. Space City Daily's Friday-night roundup, with finals from across the area, files tonight by 23:30.
