Election Day in Harris County: Polls Open 7 A.M. to 7 P.M. Tuesday, and Any Registered Voter Can Use Any Vote Center (SPACE CITY DAILY)

HOUSTON - Election Day is Tuesday in Harris County, and the county's vote centers open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. for the November 3 general and special elections - with every registered Harris County voter free to cast a ballot at any center in the county, regardless of home precinct.

The county expects more than 600 Election Day vote centers - one local guide counts roughly 620 - under the countywide vote-center model Harris County runs. Ballots are offered in English, Spanish, Vietnamese and Chinese, and any voter in line when the centers close at 7 p.m. is part of the count the county begins reporting that night; mail ballots are likewise counted as of the 7 p.m. close, per the HarrisVotes FAQ.

One caution comes straight from the Harris County Clerk's own Election Day list: some locations on the published list are still marked as not yet confirmed, and the county tells voters to verify their center on Election Day before traveling. The place to do that - and to pull a personal sample ballot, check registration status and read the full photo-ID requirements and exceptions - is HarrisVotes.com, or the Clerk's elections line at 713-755-6965.

The practical plan for Tuesday: check your sample ballot tonight, confirm your center in the morning, bring an acceptable photo ID such as a Texas driver license or a U.S. passport, and - with heavy rain in the Election Day forecast - leave early enough that weather and lines cannot cost you the 7 p.m. close.
