Dynamo Host Minnesota Saturday Night on Space City Night, Playoff Spot Already Secured
Houston has already clinched its place in the Audi 2026 MLS Cup Playoffs. What is left to play for Saturday night at Shell Energy Stadium is seeding: the Dynamo sit fifth, two points shy of the top four and home-field advantage, with four regular-season matches remaining.

Houston Dynamo FC host Minnesota United FC on Saturday night at Shell Energy Stadium, with kickoff at 7:30 p.m. CT on Space City Night, the club's official match preview said. Houston clinched its place in the Audi 2026 MLS Cup Playoffs last weekend — its third postseason berth in four seasons — following a 2-2 Texas Derby home draw against FC Dallas and additional results around the league.
The seeding race is the story now. With four regular-season matches remaining, Houston sits fifth in the Western Conference at 13-9-8 on 47 points — the fourth-highest point total in club history through 30 matches — just two points shy of the top four and home-field advantage in the opening round, according to the club. The Dynamo have been above the playoff line since May, have avoided defeat in 13 of 16 matches since returning from the World Cup break, and hold an 8-3-4 home record.
The clubs met just two weeks ago, on October 10 in Minnesota, and Houston came back for a 2-2 draw in which Lyle Foster and Duncan McGuire each scored their first goal for the club. Minnesota arrives 13th in the West at 8-12-10 on 34 points, coming off a 3-2 home win over St. Louis City on October 17 in which Marcus Caldeira, Aziel Jackson and Kelvin Yeboah scored; Yeboah leads the Loons with 17 goals and Joaquin Pereyra leads them with 13 assists, the Dynamo preview said. For Houston, defender Agustin Resch serves a one-match suspension for yellow-card accumulation, while Guilherme — who recorded his 10th assist of the season in the Derby to become just the second player in club history with 10 goals and 10 assists in a season — has contributed to 26 of Houston's 41 league goals.
The match week also brought a front-office headline: the Dynamo announced a contract extension for head coach Ben Olsen through the 2027-28 season. Off the field, Space City Night includes Space Center Houston concourse activations and a halftime "Race to Space" mascot relay. After Saturday, Houston opens a two-match road trip at Seattle on Wednesday, October 28.
