Trump State Department Adviser Britt McHenry Resigns After NBA Game Drink-Throw Video
State Department press adviser Britt McHenry is out of her role after video showed her throwing a drink at a fan during a Washington Wizards game this week. She confirmed to Front Office Sports that she signed a resignation letter.

Britt McHenry is no longer in her role as a press adviser for President Donald Trump's Department of State, Front Office Sports reported on Friday, October 23. McHenry told Front Office Sports that she signed a resignation letter, and a State Department spokesperson told the outlet the agency does not comment on internal personnel matters. Page Six was first to report her departure.
The incident happened at Capital One Arena during the Wizards' season opener against the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday. Video obtained by TMZ showed McHenry throwing a drink into a man's face as fans chanted for her to leave, according to the Washington Sun's account of the reporting. Sources cited by Page Six said fans behind her had been heckling former Wizards player Kyle Kuzma, now with the Bucks, including comments about his fiancee, model Winnie Harlow, and that McHenry told a fan to "ease up" before the confrontation escalated.
McHenry, 40, began working at the State Department in September as a press adviser covering Europe and Africa, according to Page Six reporting cited by the Washington Sun, and she was promoted to a new position on the day of the incident. An unnamed source told Page Six: "She was forced to resign [over the incident]. She was promoted and fired within 24 hours." The Washington Sun said it contacted McHenry for comment; Front Office Sports reported she confirmed the resignation letter herself.
Before joining the department, McHenry was an NFL reporter for ESPN from 2014 to 2017 and a commentator for Fox News from 2018 until 2022, Front Office Sports reported. She had announced the State Department role on LinkedIn in September, describing a new chapter after 17 years on camera, according to reporting cited this run.
