Brewers Edge Rays 3-2 in World Series Game 1 as Misiorowski Throws Fastest Pitch in Series History
Milwaukee scored twice in the first inning and survived a bases-loaded ninth to beat Tampa Bay 3-2 in Game 1 of the World Series on Friday night, behind Jacob Misiorowski, whose first pitch of the game — 103.5 mph — was the fastest ever recorded in a World Series game.

The Milwaukee Brewers beat the Tampa Bay Rays 3-2 on Friday night at American Family Field in Milwaukee to take a 1-0 lead in the World Series, in a game that opened with a piece of history. Brewers starter Jacob Misiorowski threw a 103.5 mph fastball on the first pitch of the game, the fastest pitch recorded in a World Series game since pitch tracking began, according to Reuters' report of the game.
Milwaukee scored two runs in the first inning off Rays starter Nick Martinez, who got the start when ace Drew Rasmussen was pushed back to Game 2 for an extra day of rest. Jackson Chourio singled on the first pitch he saw and scored on Christian Yelich's one-out triple, and William Contreras followed with an RBI single. Misiorowski held Tampa Bay to one run on four hits over five innings, striking out three and walking one, and relievers Abner Uribe and Aaron Ashby combined for three scoreless innings. Chourio's RBI single in the seventh pushed the lead to 3-1.
The ninth inning nearly undid it. Closer Trevor Megill gave up consecutive one-out singles to Jonathan Aranda and Chandler Simpson, a double steal and a walk to Junior Caminero loaded the bases, and a video review overturned what looked like a game-ending double play when it showed shortstop Cooper Pratt pulled off the bag at second. A run scored on the fielder's choice to make it 3-2, but Megill struck out Jonny DeLuca to end the game — his fifth postseason save in five opportunities.
It is Milwaukee's first World Series win since the club's only other appearance in the Fall Classic, a seven-game loss in 1982. Game 2 is Saturday night in Milwaukee, with rookie Logan Henderson scheduled for the Brewers against Rasmussen for the Rays.
